Born into an unloving family, heavy with light
He found his escape in another, something far more bright
Every night, he'd run to the one place he could trust
Knowing the very same arms would pick him up every time
Wounds nearly forgotten, flames scorched through the damaged
Allowing the healed to spread, grow, and overtake the flesh
Allowing the boy to begin anew
Jarringly torn away from his roots, he fought to claw his way back
Back to the warmth he knew he needed, back to the life that'd preceded
This world was not his own, this house, not his home
And the lone flame to once guide him to safety was nowhere to be found
For she had found her own, much more scorching and much less healing
Unannounced and uninvited, they spread a much stronger warmth
One far too powerful to allow a future in it's wake
The winter would soon arrive.
